In the present investigation, attempt was taken to chromatographic separation and isolation of dichloromethane extract of
aerial parts of Macrotyloma uniflorum Linn afforded a total of two compounds, methyl ester of hexadecanoic- and ethyl ester of
hexadecanoic acid mixture (I), and n-hexadecanoic acid (II). The structures of these compounds were elucidated by spectroscopic
analyses, including UV, IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR and mass spectroscopy. In addition, the fractionated crude extracts dichloromethane
(CH2Cl2), ethyl acetate (EtOAc), 1-butanol (1-BuOH) and aqueous (H2O) from aerial parts of M. uniflorum were tested for hemolytic
assay. Among all tested extracts, only the extract of 1-butanol exhibited the significant hemolytic activity.
